Why Do Document Shadows Happen?

Overhead office lighting combined with the close proximity required to photograph a piece of paper on a desk naturally creates a vignette or hard shadow. Physical flatbed scanners avoid this by pressing the paper against a glass pane with a moving, uniform light strip. DocEnhancer mathematically recreates this flatbed lighting effect.

How Our Tool Normalizes Lighting

Instead of blindly turning up the brightness (which ruins the colored ink and text), the No Shadow feature uses an adaptive local threshold. It analyzes tiny, individual blocks of your document to calculate what the "background" color is meant to be in that specific corner, and bleaches the shadow into pure white while protecting the text.
